Caregiving Idea #5: The Lawn Bomb

If you are entering this series late, welcome! Click here for background information.

Lawns and gardens take up a ton of work. If you are the kind of person who finds joy in gardening, it is a labor of love. But during hard times — or just busy times — of your life, that labor of love turns into just plain labor. Having someone help out could be a lifesaver.

· Friend or neighbor having a hard time finding time to mow their grass? Surprise them, and do it for them. Same goes for leaf raking, weeding and snow shoveling.

· Flowerbeds looking a little sad? Sneak by and plant some easy-to-care-for plants that make a yard look a bit more colorful. Even better, drop by and water them every few days.

· If they don’t have a lawn, or you don’t have the resources to do a whole lawn, sometimes a planter is best. Come by to water it a few times a week, so your friend can enjoy the new plants without any new work.

We walk in and our of our homes all the time. Seeing unplanted flower beds, weedy grass or piles of leaves can for sure get you down. Surprising a friend who could use the help. This is a great idea for kids, too! Just try to avoid the stereotypes of girls planting flowers and boys mowing grass. Mix it up, and have everyone involved in all tasks.
